Though freelance photography can be a rewarding career, it is not without its challenges. Mine was a success spanning over four decades, but I have witnessed many freelancers fail for various reasons, often opting for other occupations. Challenges Faced by Freelancers

A New York City photo studio workshop teacher shared a wise observation in the 1970s: "If photography was easy, everyone would be doing it." With the advancements of digital cameras and computer post-production, it is now easier than ever for nearly everyone to consider photography as a viable career. However, very few understand the true challenges of the profession.

Building a reliably profitable business may have taken a decade in the past, with discipline and hard work leading to significant freedom in the job. A freelance friend jokingly mentioned, 'The freedom to decide which 16 hours out of the day to work.' From my experience, very little of that time was spent actually shooting photos.
