The Essence of Life: Reflections on Purpose and Living

The meaning of life: What is the true essence of life for you? It's not just about surviving; it's about finding a sense of purpose and meaning. Many of us strive to live a life that holds significant value and impact. But is there a single definition that fits everyone? Not really. The concept of meaning in life can vary greatly from one person to another.

For some, life is about achieving personal milestones or reaching a specific age. For others, it's about making a difference in the lives of others or contributing to society. And for some, life is a journey of continuous learning and self-discovery. Whatever your purpose, the key is to find what truly resonates with you and makes you happy.

My reasons for staying alive:

In my own experience, the reason to stay alive isn't a choice I made consciously, but rather a deep sense of gratitude and a desire to experience more. From the joy of spending time with family, especially my children and grandchildren, to the excitement of meeting new people and exploring the beauty of nature, there's always something to look forward to. Learning new skills and becoming more aware of our shared reality also adds depth to my existence.

Moreover, there is a sense of intrigue about what might come next. Perhaps I will return in a new form, better prepared for the next adventure. Life for me has always been about awareness. When I am fully aware each day, I am happy. And who knows? In my next life, I might finally succeed in that long-awaited guitar solo!

A personal story:

Earlier this year, my mother passed away at the age of 98, just shy of her 100th birthday. She had always dreamed of gathering her whole family, including her children and grandchildren, who were spread across the globe. Despite her stoic demeanor, her heart overflowed with warmth and love. During her last decade, she would walk through town every day, greeted by everyone with a warm smile.

At the funeral viewing, a slightly disoriented man approached me. He recalled, 'My mother was the most famous elder in town. At one time, I volunteered as a gardener for the city. One day, your mother approached me while I was working in a rose garden and said, “flowers require cuddles.”' This simple yet profound statement taught me a new perspective on life.

For my mother, the essence of life lay in its simplicity. She prayed every day and believed in the afterlife, but she cherished each moment as a gift from the gods. Her zest for life and her kind heart are a testament to the value of living in the present and making the most of every opportunity.

What keeps me going:

Meanwhile, what keeps me going in my daily life is the love and support of my family and friends, as well as the joy I derive from an early morning swim in the sea. These simple pleasures provide the motivation and happiness I need to keep moving forward.

Conclusion: Ultimately, the meaning of life is deeply personal and subjective. It's up to each of us to reflect on our own lives and determine what brings us joy, purpose, and fulfillment. Whether it's family, nature, art, or personal achievements, the true essence of life lies in the experiences and connections we cultivate along the way.
